About[]
Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and scientist who lived from 384 BCE to 322 BCE. He is considered one of the greatest philosophers of all time, and his works have influenced philosophy and science for centuries. One of his most significant contributions is his four-causal explanatory scheme, which he uses to seek explanations in philosophy and science. Aristotle wrote a great body of work, including approximately two-hundred treatises, from which around thirty-one survive. His works cover a wide range of topics, including physics, ethics, and politics.
Early life and education[]
Aristotle was born in the town of Stagira, Chalcidice, in Greek Macedonia in 384 BC. His father, Nicomachus, was the doctor to King Amyntas of Macedonia, and Aristotle grew up as part of the aristocracy. Growing up, Aristotle became interested in nature and anatomy. At the age of seventeen, he became a member of Plato's Academy in Athens, where he studied for twenty years. After Plato's death, Aristotle left Athens and spent time travelling and studying. He later became the tutor of Alexander the Great. Aristotle believed that education was central to becoming a fulfilled person and acquiring virtues, wisdom, and happiness.

Aristotle's views on slavery and women have been controversial and criticized by many. He believed that some people were naturally suited to be slaves and that women were incapable of authoritative decision-making. These views have been widely rejected in modern times. Additionally, there are controversies related to the text of Aristotle's Politics, including disagreements about the order of the books and the interpretation of certain passages3. However, despite these controversies, Aristotle's contributions to philosophy and science have been highly influential and continue to be studied and debated today.
